LEAF 2020 Limerick Electronic Arts Festival 5th to 8th March 2020

Limerick will take centre stage next year with a brand-new festival announced for March. LEAF will attract over 20,000 participants to a range of re-imagined city centre venues from March 5th to 8th 2020.

At today’s launch a very special world debut performance saw the award winning Glasshouse Ensemble present an orchestral interpretation of the music and visuals of perhaps the world’s most renowned electronic artist and Limerick born – Aphex Twin at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The festival’s resident futurist Anne Lise Kjaer and the directors of the festival presented their vision for Limerick’s Electronic Arts Festival 2020 will debut in the riverside city next spring.

LEAF will welcome internationally renowned music artists, leaders in social media innovation, E-Sports stars and innovators in tech for a world-first event showcasing electronic arts, the intersection of technology and artistic expression.

Intersection is a business and creative symposium taking place on Friday 6th March at the new warehouse space at the LCFE campus. With keynote interviews and panels on topics from “A Digital First Society” and “AI & Art” – Friends or Foes, Sleeptech Workshops and speakers from Facebook, LEGO and the EU amongst others, this will be a stimulating update for anyone fascinated at the pace of change as we tear towards our digital future. Resident futurist Anne Lise Kjaer will curate this world first event – a renowned Ted speaker, entrepreneur and Copenhagen Goodwill ambassador, her mission is to inspire new thinking and changemaker culture across generations, she says The future is not somewhere we go; we create the future.”

Creation is the youth-facing strand comprising of a series of rapid-fire presentations, workshops and keynotes. With every Irish teenager now a digital native, this day long forum will entertain and educate with talks and panels on E-sports, YouTube, music creation and the world of online collaboration and monetisation from Depop to Spotify.

The old Cleeve’s Factory situated on O’Callaghan Strand has long lain forgotten and forlorn but during LEAF 2020, it will transform into an urban festival setting, with cutting edge installations, events and workshops. From Thursday to Sunday, music fans will be entertained by some of the world’s best electronic artists, digital artists and visionaries.

A series of free workshops over the weekend will bring participants on a journey of learning with pioneers in the field of music production, digital art, performance and art monetisation.

Chime Out choir will connect Limerick people from all walks of life and unite them as one community in song. This project promises to be an interactive, fun and meaningful community experience that will aim to establish a sense of belonging, parity and pride in what our wonderful city has to offer. Participants and spectators will have a chance to be part of something momentous. The project will culminate in an outdoor event where this multi-generational choir will perform a number of classic dance anthems accompanied by custom visual projections and a huge light show.

LEAF 2020 will also deliver a free music trail for all ages on Saturday afternoon showcasing some of the most cutting-edge electronic artists in Ireland today. Curated by tastemaker Nialler9, venues across the city will throw open their doors for a very special selection of all that’s good in music right now.  “Nialler9 is excited to curate the music trail at Limerick Electronic Arts Festival in 2020. We will be bringing electronic music of all shades to Limerick city next March in a free capacity to complement LEAF’s headliners. It’s going to be a buzzy weekend”

Having launched today with a gigantic video mapping installation on the banks of the River Shannon, Light and Digital Projection will be an integral part of LEAF. Celebrated electronic artists from across Europe will showcase in Limerick next March illuminating landmarks and hidden corners of the city all weekend long.

LEAF will also feature a host of fringe events, from a discussion on ATARI’s early days in the mid-west to late night parties curated by Fourfour  to live podcast shows, Banter with Jim Carroll and family raves.
